10th Annual Institutes of Learning

ONS 2009 Institutes of Learning Topics Due Tuesday, March 10! The 10th Annual Institutes of Learning will be held in Tampa. FL, November 13-15, 2009. The planning team has developed a conference platform but WE NEED YOU! ONS is looking for session coordinators to submit topics for the conference. Here’s how to come on board!

Develop a presentation with speakers, including objectives, content outline, goal, teaching strategies, main session highlights and format for the presentation in approximately 200 words

Confirm diverse speakers (e.g., from different practice settings, patient populations, nursing roles, geographic areas) - prior to submitting the topic. Submit the topic

Once the planning team selects your topic, you will be asked to coordinate the session development (e.g., developing slides, meeting deadlines, communicating with planning team members). Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to submit your ideas. Please check our website at www.ons.org or email us at educationtopics@ons.org for more details.

Complementary & Integrative Care SIG Mentoring Program

It is a time to focus on the need for mentoring and to assure a brighter future. You can partricipate by becoming a mentor or mentee through the Complementary & Integrative Care SIG Mentoring Program.

Did you know that the Complementary & Integrative Care SIG provides a formal mentoring program for oncology nurse professionals? Joining is easy. To enroll, visit www.3creekmentoring.com/ONS to start the process.

Mentoring relationships officially begin once a mentee contacts a prospective mentor (through the online program) and both parties agree to a mentoring arrangement. These relationships are ongoing with the majority of communication occurring by email and through the online program. However, mentors and mentees may also connect in-person or by telephone (at their own expense) as deemed appropriate and convenient for them.

Mentoring relationships can be either short or long in duration. However, participants should be willing to make a minimum commitment of two hours per month to the program. If at anytime an arrangement is not meeting the desired expectations, a mentor or mentee can be paired with another member participating in the program.

Please direct any questions to membership@ons.org.
